Global & Experiential Education:
Connecting Students to Real-World Learning

While students acquire critical quantitative and STEM skills in the classroom, it is equally important to understand industry trends, business needs, and the perspectives of leaders. Real-world, applied learning experiences are crucial for providing practical insights that help students transition smoothly into their careers. The Global & Experiential (G&E) Office bridges the gap between industry and academia by offering students hands-on learning opportunities. Through competitions, hackathons, industry conferences, and international travel courses, G&E equips students with essential skills and professional networks that extend beyond the classroom.

Case Competitions

BAPM and STEM Business competitions provide students with the chance to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios. G&E supports participation in a range of competitions, including the Iowa Graduate Business Analytics Case Competition, McGill Trading Competition, Bloomberg Trading Competition, Adobe Analytics Competition, Alteryx NYC Datathon, and the Humana-Mays Healthcare Analytics Competition.

Capstone Project

The MSBAPM Capstone Project simulates a real-world consulting experience, enabling students to apply their advanced business analytics and project management skills. Partnering with diverse organizations, the MSBAPM program connects academic learning with practical analytics challenges, leveraging data analysis, predictive modeling, deep learning, machine learning, and AI skills. Working in teams, students collaborate with advisors and a company contact, set project milestones, and deliver insights that impact organizational goals. Each team concludes by presenting findings and actionable recommendations to the company, showcasing their refined technical and communication skills. We have partnered with many dynamic companies on Capstone Projects, including:

  • PepsiCo
  • Stanley Black & Decker
  • Henkel
  • Travelers
  • Cigna
  • OTIS Elevator
  • Torigen
  • Potoo Solutions
  • Ananda AI
  • Hartford HealthCare

The MS in Business Analytics and Project Management (BAPM) program actively sponsors and supports student participation in premier industry conferences, including Tableau, NetDiligence, Grace Hopper, ODSC, Insurity, ITC Vegas, and more. These opportunities allow students to engage with thought leaders across diverse industries and gain insights into cutting-edge technologies and emerging trends shaping the future of business. Through these experiences, students expand their personal and professional networks, learning to cultivate meaningful relationships that drive career advancement while strengthening their personal brand.

Company Visits

Students in UConn's Business Analytics and other STEM Business Graduate Programs visit with a diverse array of industry leaders at their companies, to explore cutting-edge trends, strategies for managing high-performing teams, and impactful leadership practices. No matter which "pathway" UConn students pursue, they gain unparalleled access to thought leaders and potential future employers, engaging in meaningful dialogues about the challenges and priorities shaping today’s business landscape. These personal experiences equip students with insights into cross-industry challenges while identifying trends unique to specific fields, preparing them to excel as dynamic leaders in their chosen careers.
